More Image Editing Tutorial Submission

Create a folder in your CS120/Tutorials folder called Image Tutorial 2.

Combining and Editing Images

• Download housefront1.jpg and then open your copy in the Pixlr.com/editor.
• Save housefront1.jpg in Pixlr format (filename is to be banner.pxd).
  • Reminder: Saving with just a different filename is not enough. You MUST specify the file type when you save it in Pixlr.
• Edit banner.pxd as follows (note: zoom in and out as needed):
  • Use the Paint Bucket tool to make the sky blue. Adjust the tolerance as necessary. Take note of the hexadecimal value of the color you chose, e.g., #00b8e6.
  • Use the Clone Stamp tool to eliminate the telephone pole and wires (be sure to leave the chimney intact - don't remove). Note: It will be easier to do this if you zoom in and choose an appropriate size (brush width) for the tool.
  • Add a new layer, fill it black and move it under the Background layer of the house.
  • Change the canvas width to 1000 pixels (leave the height the same). The new pixels are to be placed to the right. Fill the new transparent area black in the new lower layer.
  • Create a new layer and import the file fsbo_tablet1.gif into the new layer (hint: Layers menu, Open Image as layer command). Use  the Move tool from the tool bar to place the logo at the bottom of the new black region (i.e. at the bottom right corner of the image).
  • Create text that says 541-555-5555. This text is to be black 20 point bold italic Arial font and will be placed on the FSBO sign where there is a white space for the phone number (use selection and move to align the text).
  • Create text that says Only $150,000. This text is to be the same color as the red in the FSBO sign with a 36 point bold Arial font. Make this text centered in the black region above the sign with one word per line (use selection and move to align the text).
  • Create text that says On the Oregon Coast.  This text is to be centered above the price in a light blue color that matches the sky with a 20 point italics Arial font.
  • Give yourself credit.  Put a white text byline that says, Graphic by Your Name (use your own name).  The text will use a 8 point Times font and be one line.  Adjust positioning so it is along one of the edges of the image in the black block.
• Save the final image in two formats.
  • Pixlr format (banner.pxd)
  • JPG format (banner.jpg)

What to turn in?

Turn in a link to the folder containing the four (4) image files (housefront1.jpg, fsbo_tablet1.gif, banner.pxd, and banner.jpg).

State the hexadecimal color that you used for your sky.
