Math Activity: Interior Angles of Polygons

Purpose: To explore angle concepts related to polygons, in particular the sum of the interior angles of any given polygon.

Materials: Pattern blocks or pattern block app

Math Learning Center Pattern Blocks Links to an external site., nice protractor

Directions:

Find the sum of the interior angles (aka vertex angles) of each polygon below. Use what you know about angles, like 360 degrees in one revolution around a circle, triangles, parallel lines, etc.

Polygon	Interior Angle Sum	Brief explanation and/or sketch
Triangle	180 degrees	if you put the three angles together, then you get a straight angle
Quadrilateral
Pentagon
Hexagon
Heptagon
Octagon

n-gon a formula, plug in the number of sides, n, and get the sum.
