Advanced Graphics Editing Tutorial: Layers

Layers are one way of separating pieces of an image composition. They allow us to edit the each piece without affecting the other pieces. Here is the Layers window in Pixlr.

The Background layer can be unlocked by double-clicking its lock icon.

Now we could move Layer0 (formerly Background) above Layer1, giving us a transparent layer in the background.

When text is added in Pixlr, and most other image editing applications that allow layers, the text is placed in its own layer.
