Playing with Base-ten Blocks
Purpose: To explore multiple representations of base-ten numerals.
Materials: base-ten blocks app Links to an external site. or other app Links to an external site.
Just like you can make change for $10 as 10 $1s, we can trade 10 for 10 ones, or 100 for 10 tens.
Here is a fun online app for playing with base-ten blocks: virtual base-ten blocks.
- Rewrite 136 using base-ten blocks in at least 4 ways.
- 136 = 1x100 + 3x10 + 6x1
- 136 = ________________
- 136 = ________________
- 136 = ________________
- 136 = 1x100 + 3x10 + 6x1
- Create another 3 digit number using base-ten block, draw it here, then show 2 other ways to make it. One of these ways should use the least number of blocks.
You can neatly draw the base-ten blocks or include screenshots.
